Consumers are worried about an imminent shortage of basic commodities as retailers are now rejecting electronic money and are demanding hard cash for goods like cooking oil and rice.
Retailers like Choppies, Food World and Mohammed Mussa among others are claiming that the manufacturers are not accepting electronic money, hence they cannot accept it as well.
Retailers are attaching notices which read:
NOTICE ON COOKING OIL: Due to manufacturers demanding hard cash payment to supply us, please note all cooking oil will now be sold on a strictly” CASH” basis in order for us to be able to re-stock. We apologize for this inconvenience which is out of our control.
