Pastor Evan Mawarire named 2016 African Person of the Year

This Flag movement founder, Pastor Evan Mawarire has been named the 2016 African Person of the year by the Daily Maverick.

One angry Facebook video completely changed Pastor Evan Mawarire’s life – and breathed new life into Zimbabwe’s resistance movement. Mawarire reminded Zimbabweans that ordinary people really can make a difference, and that words can be as powerful as bullets. For this, Robert Mugabe labelled him a “disgrace” and “a great shame”. We call him African of the Year.
