The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) has announced that it forcing local mobile network operator NetOne to reverse its new data promotions.
In a Facebook post Potraz said:
Today POTRAZ instructed NetOne Zimbabwe to stop running all promotions that have not been authorised by the Regulator. NetOne was presented with a letter to this effect today. All mobile operators are aware of the procedures they need to follow before introducing a promotion.
This announcement comes on the same day that NetOne unveiled a number of changes to its mobile broadband lineup, including the reintroduction of daily bundles that provided subscribers with 300 MB of data for $1.
This comes after a row over data tariffs took place last week , which resulted in Econet and Supa Mandiwanzira blaming each other in a war of words.
UPDATE: Potraz have clarified their statement and explained that it only applies to WhatsApp and Twitter bundles.
