Beauty Chibaya of Zanu-PF comfortably won the Bikita West by-election.  Chibaya beat 5 other candidates who included Kudakwashe Gopo of Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) and Madock Tatirai Chivasa of National Constitutional Assembly (NCA).

Updates

Voting has now been closed and the counting is now underway

  • ZESN observed more than 50% of the voters were women. In addition, the majority of voters were elderly women.
  • ZESN observed voters being turned away for various reasons, including coming to wrong polling stations and without proper IDs.
  • There are adequate polling personnel averaging six (6) polling officials per polling station everywhere ZESN is observing

 

  • At Agritex Hall, DA’s office ward 9,  the presiding officer confirmed to Heal Zimbabwe an incident of Zanu-PF compiling names of those who had voted.
  • At Mandiki Primary School, Enemy Berejena, a Zanu-PF member is threatening people with violence if they fail to vote for Zanu-PF
  • At Guru polling station, ward 11, Zanu-PF members Lydia Tavengwa and Tarisai Garai are telling people to vote for Zanu-PF
  • At Nyika Health centre ward 12 as at 2 pm, 345 people voted(127 males and 218 females).
  • At Dungu P.sch,ward 12 as @ 2pm,135 people had voted(40 males and 95 females)10 assisted voters(4males and 6 females)

 

  • At Chitsanga Primary School, ward 22, people have been queueing for 2-3hrs to vote. This is the ward where ZimPF candidate, Kudakwashe Gopo comes from.
  • At Birivenge Secondary School, in ward 12 , 291 poeple had voted as at 2 pm (190 females,101 males). 26 people were assisted (23 females,3 males).
  • At Mandara Primary School, ward 5, a Zanu-PF member only identified as Chipengo was telling people to vote for Zanu-PF.  Chipengo is 100m away from the polling station.
  • At Gumunyu Primary School, ward 13, at 12 pm 314 people had voted (127 males,187 females). 19 people were assisted (7 males and 12 females).
  • At Masarira Primary School, in ward 22, 212 people had voted as at 12:40 have (133 females,79 males) 21 people were assisted due to illiteracy. 4 people were turned away who had no national i.d.
  • At Domboshava Primary School, Ward 11,  215 people had voted as at 11:30 am (129 females, 86 males). 17 people were assisted (13 females,4 males).
  • At Mangondo Secondary School, in ward 11, 300 people had voted as at 11:30 am (99 males and 201 females). 18 people were assisted.
  • At Guru polling station, ward 11, Zanu-PF members Lydia Tavengwa and Tarisai Garai are forcing people to declare that they are illiterate
  • At Marozva Primary School ward 32, Presiding Officer, Kaliphinos Itayi has refused to provide voting statistics to accredited observers
  • At Beardmore Primary School, 267 people had voted as at 9 am. (171 females and 96 males)
  • At Bikita Minerals Primary School ward 30, 160 people had voted as at 10 am.(102 males and 65 males)
  • At Chebvute Business Centre, a total of 150 people had voted as at 10 am. 17 assisted voters due to poor eyesight. 1 unregistered voter was turned away
  • At Bikita Minerals hall ward 30, as at 10 am 92 had voted(39 males,52 females) 11 voters were assisted.
  • 4 young women declared themselves illiterate & were assisted to vote at St Mary’s Catholic Church, in ward 12.
  • At Makotore Primary School ward32,55 people had voted(23males,32females) had voted at 8 am. There were 8 assisted voters and 3  voters were turned away for not having national i.d. cards
