Zimbabweans have been expressing outrage after an alleged ZRP Notice went viral on social media. The Notice advises police officers doing traffic duty that their daily targets have been reviewed upwards to $4 400 from $4 000. However, the police station is no stated although one name appears on the notice, one C/I Furawu. Therefore, as Pindula we cannot speak to the authenticity of the said notice. The full notice reads:
NOTICE TO ALL MEMBERS DOING ENFORCEMENT DUTIES
THIS NOTE SERVES TO NOTTIFY YOU THAT THE DAILY TARGET FOR OUR STATION HAS BEEN RAISED TO $4400-00 FROM THE PREVIOUS $4000-00 AS SUCH EVERYBONDY SHOULD RAISE THE INDIVIDUAL TARGET FORM (sic) THE PREVIOUS ONE
BY O.I.C. HARARE TRAFFIC
C/I FURAWU
NB ANYBODY WITH QUERIES TO SEE THE O.I.C
However, Zimbabweans have expressed outrage over this notice saying that that it clearly shows that the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s main aim is revenue collection and not law enforcement. And as usual usual, Zimbabweans (and other nationalities) went on social media to vent their frustrations and outrage with this situation.
Here are some of the reactions.
Tich Ruzvidzo asked:
So what’s the Police mandate, Revenue “collection” (witch-hunting) or Public protection??

So ZRP mounts roadblocks to fundraise not to make sure travelers are safe.

a single police station, makes more money per day than many established businesses that have been running for over 10 years?!
