Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation’s management decided to award selected individuals 50% pay rise and $5000 car loans.
The selected individuals are said to be closely related to some senior managers who are led by acting chief executive officer Patrick Mavhura. The ones that were selected are; Francis Nyamutsamba, Theophanous Chuma, Tawanda Gudyanga, Macdonald Gurira, Rumbidzai Takawira and Wadzanai Mhombera among others. The State broadcaster has not had pay increments since January 2014 when they slashed workers’ salaries, a move which has since been declared unlawful by the courts. Management has promised to pay back only 40% of the total owed in installments starting in April.
People who spoke to NewZimbabwe.com on condition of anonymity questioned the criteria used to select those that are hard working. They also accused management of nepotism and said that most of the people working on those positions are unqualified. The workers said that they were considering writing a letter of complaint to the Minister of Information Chris Mushohwe.
