Zimdef to pay exam fees for STEM students, parents to get money back

Higher Education Minister Professor Jonathan Moyo has come to the assistance of 5,064 Upper 6 STEM students who were at risk of missing their Zimsec examinations amid revelations that the Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund (Zimdef) had not paid the money required to register for exams.

In a press release, Moyo’s ministry pointed out that first term fees for STEM students had been paid and that exam fees had now been included into the deal. The statement also said that parents who had aleady paid for their children’s exam fees will get their money back. Part of the statement reads:

As you are aware, all your fees were paid and it was the general position that examination fees were excluded. Following submissions by stakeholders, the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development has taken a position to pay the examination fees.
Schools are therefore advised to submit invoices for their examination fees to ZIMDEF Regional Offices. Like before, any parents who have already paid examination fees will be reimbursed in the usual manner.
ZIMDEF Regional Offices and the Provincial STEM Officers are ready to assist the schools to expedite the process.
