Hicham El Amrani the Confederation of African Football’s (Caf) secretary general resigned on Sunday without giving reasons for his decision. The 37-year old El Amrani had been the Caf secretary-general for the past six years. He was Issa Hayatou’s right-hand man and his resignation comes barely a fortnight after Issa Hayatou was ousted from power when he lost the CAF presidency.
El-Amrani was involved in a war of words with Zifa and Cosafa president Phillip Chiyangwa in the run-up to the elections. El-Amrani accused Chiyangwa of attempting to undermine and destabilise Caf after Chiyangwa organised a party with Fifa President Gianni Infantino.
