The Zanu-PF youth league has joined calls by the party’s six provinces for local government minister and the party’s national commissar Saviour Kasukuwere to be fired.
Sources who spoke to NewsDay said that the Zanu-PF youth league has endorsed calls for Kasukuwere’s ouster. When contacted for comment, the league’s secretary Kudzai Chipanga was evasive at first but confirmed that as youth there was nothing they could do as the matter was now before the politburo. He also said that the youth league only stands with President Robert Mugabe and the First Lady’s decision. Said Chipanga:
The youth league stands with the President and the First Lady. These are the people we will die for and we are ready for that anytime. Any other member of the party we respect and especially those in the higher echelons. They are our elders, but we stand with the President and the First Lady only.
A source further told NewsDay that it was difficult for Chipanga and others to openly declare that Kasukuwere must go because they worked together during the campaign to ouster Mujuru.
