Grace stops Zanu PF officials, tasked by Mugabe to investigate Kasukuwere from travelling to Bindura
First Lady Grace Mugabe yesterday stopped a Zanu-PF delegation led by Ignatius Chombo and tasked by President Robert Mugabe to investigate allegations against Saviour Kasukuwere, from travelling to Bindura following reports that rival factions had ferried hundreds of their supporters to the venue to disrupt the meeting.
Zanu-PF sources that spoke to NewsDay said the meeting was called off after legislators from Mashonaland Central indicted they did not trust Chombo who they accused to be symphathetic to Kasukuwere. The source said:
MPs from the province raised issues with the First Lady. (Kenneth) Musanhi has direct contact with Grace, so he advised her that the province does not trust Chombo. Grace had to instruct Chombo to call off the meeting.
FeedbackMashonaland East Provincial Affairs minister Martin Dinha yesterday confirmed cancellation of the meeting, saying the directive had come from Chombo. Efforts by NewsDay to get a comment from Chombo were fruitless while Kasukuwere refused to comment on the issue.
