ZIFA sets up George Shaya Fund to help sick legend
The Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) has unveiled the George Shaya Benefit Fund to help football legend George Shaya who is suffering from dementia. The fund will have a financial package as well as a medical fund, for the Shaya who has hit hard times of late. Zifa president Phillip Chiyangwa personally donated $300 to the Shaya family, as he waits for the legalities and paperwork to set up the fund.
Said Chiyangwa :
As an association we felt it was important that we play a leading role in ensuring that someone like George Shaya gets the help he badly wants right now.
FeedbackThis isn’t an ordinary footballer, but one who took this game to a new level during his playing days, delighting us at a time when we were fans, and it would be wrong for football to be seen as if it is turning it’s back on such a legend.
For us this is just a start and we hope to make this a very big thing because we have to make a difference to the way football was run in this country.
