7-2 Humiliation serves you right for not respecting coaches, Magaya told

Football coaches associations have come out in full support of their colleagues at Yadah FC and hit out at club owner Walter Magaya for not respecting coaches. Magaya suspended coach Jairos Tapera and his assistants for disobeying his instructions. The move backfired as the team was thrashed 7-2 by Bantu Rovers.

The Soccer Coaches Union of Zimbabwe (SCUZ) and Zimbabwe Coaches Association (ZISCA) have rallied against Magaya saying that the 7 goal humiliation served him right for interfering with the technical staff. The coaches also said that Magaya’s conduct was not befitting of the Premier Soccer League and urged him to separate his roles.

SCUZ secretary-general Newsome Mutema said

Club owners must respect coaches. Just because a person loves the game and funds a team doesn’t mean what they see from the terraces is the same as leading a side. That result (7-2 drubbing) is a good message to Yadah and like-minded sponsors and executives that interfere in team selection.

What Yadah did was to take a boozers’ approach to a topflight match and because they didn’t have technical expertise, they were humiliated. People must understand that football is now scientific and issues to do with psyching of players in the build-up to a match as well as coming up with right combinations or drills is key to the success of a team
