Chitungwiza councillors challenge their suspension by Kasukuwere

Chitungwiza councillors have challenged their suspension by Local government minister Saviour Kasukuwere on allegations of corruption.

Speaking to NewsDay, Kasukuwere said that his legal department was looking into the councillor’s challenges and those that have a case to answer will appear before a tribunal. Said Kasukuwere:

Our legal team will start evaluating the responses against the charge. Thereafter, those with clear cases of violating the law will be forwarded to a tribunal that would be appointed in accordance with the law.

The 25 councillors are accused of selling land for personal gain and prejudicing Chitungwiza Town council of $7 771 112,88 in revenue as it ended up realising only $349 962 from the projected $8 121 074.
