Government to buy at least 226 cars for traditional chiefs for 2018 Elections
Rural Development minister Abednico Ncube has revealed that the government will buy at least 226 cars for traditional chiefs ahead of the 2018 harmonized elections. Ncube revealed this information while answering questions in Parliament. He had been asked if the government was planning to purchase vehicles for chiefs and headmen before the end of parliament’s current term.
Said Ncube,
Let me just assure you that very shortly our chiefs will be given cars. At least we have 226 registered chiefs … So, do not worry.
Feedback…Madam Speaker, something is in the pipeline. We are through with the Minister of Finance and Economic Development.
However, the 226 is a massive shortfall as there are at least 2800 chiefs. In the past, traditional chiefs have received Mazda B1800 vehicles. The government has also fitted their homes with electricity and boreholes.
