Opposition slam Mugabe for unnecessary trip to Mexico, where he did not speak

President Robert Mugabe who was attending the United Nations World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, was reportedly not given a speaking slot. The opposition has spoken out against the president’s frequent foreign trips saying that they are not only unnecessary but that they are straining the government’s meagre resources.

People’s Democratic Party secretary general and former cabinet minister Godern Moyo said:

Very few serious public leaders would allow themselves to be subjected to tedious folkloric speeches from zoo bound megaphone.

The summit is searching for generational solutions. It does not make sense for the summiteers to pretend that Mugabe has something to offer to them when he has failed to offer it to his own country.

He is old and tired and we are sure that the conference organisers in Mexico realised that it would be asking for too much if Mugabe was given a slot to speak at the conference.

The MDC condemns the reckless wastage of scarce foreign currency to charter a plane all the way to and from Cancun in Mexico only for Mugabe and his delegation to go and enjoy themselves in the humid prime tourist resort of Mexico.
