CAPS United faces goalkeeping crisis ahead of Al Ahli Tripoli match

Caps United faces a goalkeeping crisis ahead of the Caf Champions’ League Group B match against Al Ahli Tripoli tomorrow at the National Sports Stadium with first-choice goalkeeper Edmore Sibanda and his deputy Jorum Muchambo nursing ankle injuries. The club has turned to former Gunners goalkeeper Prosper Chigumba.

The club’s vice captain Dennis Dauda is also battling an injury which might rule him out of the match while Leonard Tsipa is also still sidelined by an injury. The club’s captain Hardlife Zvirekwi, who has been battling fatigue-related injuries, is expected to be fit for the match despite earlier indications he was out of the game. Speaking to The Herald, assistant coach Fungai “Tostao’’ Kwashi refused to shed light into the injuries and said that some of the players will recover.

The Herald reports that CAPS United’s medical team has put in some measures to get big ‘keeper Sibanda on his feet for the game by temporarily managing his pain with relief injections. Al Ahli Tripoli’s strikers, Muaid Ellafi and Anis Saltou, have seven goals between themselves and are among the leading goal-scorers in the Caf Champions League. They have, however, failed to score in the group stages.
