Zifa vice-president Omega Sibanda, who also doubles up as chairperson of the High Performance Committee that recommends candidates for national team posts confirmed that they will announce coaches for national teams from the Under-15 level up to the senior national team.
The announcement will also include the new head coach of the Mighty Warriors, after stand-in coach Shadreck Mlauzi’s contract was terminated. The new Mighty Warriors coach will lead the team in the Cosafa Women’s Championships set for Bulawayo in September. Sibanda did not shed light on whether Warriors’ interim coach Norman Mapeza would be appointed on a permanent basis.
The Under-17 coach will have a little over a month to prepare his team for the Cosafa Championship set for Mauritius in July where Zimbabwe are in Group A with Botswana, Malawi and hosts Mauritius. Caps United assistant coach Mark Mathe is set to take charge of the Under-20s who have the Cosafa Championships in December. A source told The Chronicle that Tonderai Ndiraya might be given the Under-23s and Sithethelelwe “Kwinji 15” Sibanda the Mighty Warriors.
