Cde Chinx, the musician known mostly for his Chimurenga chants and eventual career as a musician pursuing politically driven music, sadly passed away on Friday, 6 June 2017. Here are 5 songs that the musician will be remembered for.
1. Zvikomborero
Done with what became one of Zimbabwe’s most iconic bands, Ilanga, Zvikomborero speaks of the need for unity in Zimbabwe. Zvikomborero was sung soon after Independence and the objective was to motivate Zimbabweans of different persuasions to work together for the development of the country.
2. Ngorimba
A easy going song about how the different instruments in Zimbabwe – Ngoma, Marimba, Hosho – create music good for the ear.
3. “Roger Confirm”
Roger Confirm is a song about the need for a country to have unity of purpose
4. Maruza Imi
Arguably one of the most popular Song Chimurenga songs, this is Cde Chinx’s signature song from the struggle. With war recruits as his backing vocals Cde Chinx decries the coming of the white settlers to Zimbabwe from Britain and America.
5. Africa
One of his more popular works later in his career (90s), Africa is a song about the need for African countries to self-determine and for its people to come out of poverty.
