The Warriors are through to the finals of the 2017 edition of the Cosafa Cup that is currently underway in South Africa after beating Lesotho 4-3 in a thrilling match played on Thursday evening. In the final, Zimbabwe will meet Zambia on Sunday. Zambia beat Tanzania 4-1 in another semi-final.
Knox Mutizwa scored a hatrick while the other goal was scored by Talent Chawapiwa. Mutizwa scored in the 18th minute from a corner before Lesotho’s Motebang equalised in the 41st minute to send both teams level at halftime. Mutizwa scored his second in the 51st minute after pouncing onto a defence splitting pass from Chawapiwa. Chawapiwa scored his goal in the 64th minute before being substituted to make way for Mitchell Katsvairo.
Lesotho made it 3-2 in the 79th minute after the Warriors lapsed in concentration. However their joy was short-lived as Mutizwa scored his third and Zimbabwe’s 4th in the 82nd minute. Lesotho scored a penalty in extra time but the damage had already been done.
