Police officer arrested for demanding bribe to destroy docket

Constable Newrance Chikwanda (40) from Kwekwe appeared in court on Monday facing the charge of abuse of office. Chikwanda was arrested after he was caught red-handed receiving a $10 from one Carpenter Dube in a sting operation set by the police. Chikwanda had arrested Dube after failing to locate his cousin Vincent Hlanganiso who is alleged to have run over a pedestrian. Chikwanda threatened to charge Dube with his relative’s crime unless he paid a $10 bribe to enable him to destroy Hlanganiso’s docket.

Dube reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of Chikwanda after a trap had been set for him.

Provincial magistrate, Ngoni Nduna denied Chikwanda bail and remanded him in custody to July 19.
