Akbay to step down as Highlanders coach
Addressing journalists at a press conference yesterday, Highlanders coach Erol Akbay announced that he will be stepping down as the club’s coach when his contract expires at the end of this season.
Said Akbay:
I have told the executive that I will stop at the end of this year from coaching Highlanders. I don’t know what I am going to do at the end of this year, but I will see. There are a lot of reasons, but of course the biggest reason is the financial situation for me and that is why it’s not possible anymore to continue working for Highlanders. Even if the financial situation improves I have made up my mind; my contract ends at the end of this year and I am not renewing it.
FeedbackThe club’s chief executive officer Nhlanhla Dube said that Akbay’s announcement was news to him and the rest of the club executive members were not aware of this development. However, Akbay said he was still committed to Highlanders and was looking forward to winning this season.
