Speaking to The Chronicle in a telephone interview, United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) Zimbabwe Chief of Communications Mr Victor Chinyama warned job seekers of fake job offers.
He said that the biggest indicator that the job offer is fake is the fact that the people ask for payment. Said Chinyama:
We have received reports from as far as Hwange, Mutare and Tsholotsho. It shows that this could be an organised syndicate that is just taking advantage of people. Be warned, if they ask you to pay for the service, they are not Unicef and they are not doing it on behalf of Unicef. People are just seeing an opportunity to make financial gain out of desperate people. All our applications are transparent and there is no requirement to pay any fees. We advertise our job vacancies in the media and our employees are hired through a formal selection process.
In a statement, Unicef urged individuals who may have fallen victim to the fraudsters to report such cases to the police.
