Govt silently reinstates auditor general
Speaking to The Financial Gazette on the sidelines of a Public Accountants and Auditors Board (PAAB) meeting held in Harare, Mildred Chiri confirmed that she has been reinstated as Auditor General but however did not disclose much on the grounds that they she was still negotiating with Government.
In July this year, Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa ended Chiri’s job and appointed Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) general manager, Mike Ndudzo who was rejected by Members of Parliament. According to Section 310 (1) of the Constitution stipulates that the auditor general is appointed by the President with the approval of Parliament. Efforts by The Financial Gazette to get a comment from Ndudzo who had since retired from IDC to take up the position of Auditor General were fruitless.
