MDC-T secretary-general, Douglas Mwonzora has responded to spokesperson Obert Gutu’s call for next year’s elections to be postponed as the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) is inadequately prepared to run a credible election.
Mwonzora said MDC-T has not yet reached a decision that elections must be deferred although he hinted that the decision hinges on whether ZEC produces a credible voters’ roll or not. Said Mwonzora:
The MDC has not yet made the decision that elections must be deferred. However, the position is that elections must be held after all eligible voters have been registered. We hope that by the time the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission calls for the elections, the voters’ roll will be ready.
