Mnangagwa consulted prophets to establish when I would die, but was told he could go first, says Mugabe

At today’s Solidarity March held at the Zanu-PF headquarters, President Robert Mugabe claimed that his former deputy Emmerson Mnangagwa had consulted prophets to establish when the president was going to die because he was eager to take over from him. According to Mugabe, the prophets told the former Vice President that he may be the one to die first before Mugabe. This is reminiscent of what happened to Mnangagwa’s predecessor Joice Mujuru, who was accused of hiring traditional healers and Nigerian witchdoctors to kill Mugabe so that she could become president. Mugabe said that Mnangagwa was eyeing his post and could not wait to takeover upon his death or retirement.

The president also used the occasion to take digs at his aide for close to 40 years. Mnangagwa was fired from the government on Monday after being accused of undermining the authority of the president among other allegations. Addressing Zanu-PF supporters who had gathered at the venue, Mugabe claimed that Mnangagwa was no different from Joice Mujuru as their cases were very similar. They were both hungry for power and wanted to unseat him.

The president went on to accuse Mnangagwa of lacking discipline and said that if there was a school that teaches party discipline, then Mnangagwa would be the perfect person to attend that school so that he could learn what is expected of leaders.

He went on to say that the Zanu-PF Congress would deal with all requests regarding the appointment of Mnangagwa’s replacement and the amendment of the Zanu-PF Constitution.
