UZ To Close, Exams Deferred to January After Students Refuse To Write Exams Until Mugabe Resigns
The University of Zimbabwe (UZ) has announced that it will be closing down for the semester on Tuesday, a week earlier than expected. This comes after students at the university went on strike protesting against a number of issues. The students said:
- That they would not write their exams until President Robert Mugabe steps down.
- That first lady Grace Mugabe should return the PhD from the University of Zimbabwe’s Faculty of Social Studies Department of Sociology which she received in 2014.
- That Vice Chancellor Levi Nyagura should resign
As a result of the demonstrations, the University decided to close the semester a week early. The end of semester examinations have been deferred to January 8-24, 2018 at the university. A notice signed by Dr N.A. Mutongoreni, the University Registrar said that students in residence will stay for free during the examinations period in January.

UNIVERSITY OF ZIMBABWE
NOTICE TO ALL STUDENTS
Please be advised that the University of Zimbabwe will end the current semester about a week earlier with effect from 21 November 2017.
End of 2017 Semester Examinations will be conducted during the period 8 January to 24
January 2018 at the same planned venues.Students in residence will return and occupy their current rooms for the duration of the examinations at no extra cost.
