Former cabinet minister and Zanu-PF National Political Commissar Saviour Kasukuwere is reported to have begged President Emmerson Mnangagwa for forgiveness as well as permission to return home. Kasukuwere fled into exile after the fall of former president Robert Mugabe together with fellow G40 Faction kingpin, Professor Jonathan Moyo. Kasukuwere’s house was attacked by alleged Special Air Service (SAS) snipers when the Zimbabwe Defence Forces launched the military intervention which resulted in the fall of Mugabe.
Kasukuwere has not revealed his current whereabouts and has not made a public appearance since the military takeover. The information that Kasukuwere was begging to return to the country was revealed by Zanu PF chairperson for Manicaland province, Mike Madiro at a party meeting. Said Madiro:
I was recently talking to President Mnangagwa who told me that Kasukuwere is begging for a safe passage back into the country.
Madiro also claimed that former Zanu-PF Youth League boss Kudzanayi Chipanga was begging to be readmitted into the party as an ordinary card carrying member. Chipanga is one of the G40 Members who was expelled from the party last year. Chipanga became notorious for some outrageous statements he made when praising Mugabe before his fall. Said Madiro:
Chipanga told me that it is cold outside the party and he wants the party to reconsider him to come back as a card-carrying member.
Thus when you see some youths in Makoni misbehaving and jumping on top of tables I think of him. Chipanga told me to warn them to behave because where he is its cold; very cold
