Suspect In Shingi Mukandi Accident Charged With Murder
State prosecutors have altered the charges that Alfred Takudzwa Machipisa (25) is facing from culpable homicide to murder. Machipisa is alleged to have killed businessman and socialite Shingi Mukandi who died on the night of July 22, 2017, in what was initially suspected to be a hit and run accidents. He was 33. Mukandi who was travelling on a motorcycle died on the spot after being hit by Machipisa as he approached his home in Mount Pleasant.
However, the state says it has since discovered evidence that Machipisa killed Mukandi in a case of premeditated murder which he disguised to look like an accident. It is alleged Machipisa fled the scene without giving any assistance or checking if Mukandi was still alive. He allegedly hid the accident-damaged vehicle at his brother, Fanwell’s place at Zambezi Flats, Mabelreign, Harare.
Machipisa is out on bail of $150 and will face murder charges once the state completes its investigations. Magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa remanded the matter to February 5.
