ZRP, Charity Charamba Deny Saying That People Are Crying Out For Roadblocks
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Senior Assistant Charity Charamba has denied ever saying that people are crying out for a return of police roadblocks. Instead, she blamed the media saying that they wanted to tarnish the image of the police despite earlier reports where she said that a country cannot operate without roadblocks.Charamba is reported to have said that the public was crying out for the return of roadblocks by online publication New Zimbabwe, and Pindula aggregated the article here, although it made clear that the ZRP never issued a statement expressing those sentiments. Charamba was quoted at a workshop in Gweru.
In a statement, Charamba said,
The ZRP would like to dismiss such reports that are circulating on some sections of the media alleging that people are crying out for roadblocks to return. That statement was never issued by the ZRP and even the ZRP spokesperson never said that. That mischievous person (journalist) wants to tarnish the image of the ZRP by spreading falsehoods.
FeedbackHowever, ZimMediaReview called out the Senior Assistant Commissioner saying that she was lying. Writing on Twitter, Zim Media Review said,
Charamba is lying. She specifically said, at a workshop for journalists in Gweru, that some drivers were pleading for the ZRP to return to the roads.
