On Monday Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) briefly reinstated Heath Streak and 18 members of the coaching staff before firing them again. ZC served the coaches with letters of termination of contracts. This comes after the coaches had refused to step down after the national cricket team failed to qualify for the 2019 Cricket World Cup to be hosted by England and Wales
An excerpt of the letter written to coaches reinstating them reads:
After extensive consultations with our client on the position of the law, our client has resolved to unreservedly retract all and any communication leading to the ultimatum to resign and the subsequent dismissals against your clients. For the avoidance of doubt, Zimbabwe Cricket has withdrawn the decision to summarily dismiss your clients.
However, Streak’s lawyer Gerald Mlotshwa last week wrote to Zimbabwe Cricket saying that the contracts could only be terminated according to the labour laws of Zimbabwe. Streak has garnered support from many people who include David Coltart and Temba Mliswa who want the ZC board to be dismissed.
