The MDC-T led by Nelson Chamisa will hold primary elections from May 5 to May 12. This was confirmed by the party’s secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora when he spoke to NewsDay yesterday.
He also confirmed that some aspirants were removed from the provisional list because they are criminals. He added that the party had invited affected candidates to register their complaints at the party headquarters in Harare. Said Mwonzora:
We will be holding our primary elections from May 5 to the 12th. We have set these dates to make sure the whole process is completed and the last day is the deadline for us to have the list of all candidates ahead of the general elections.
MDC-T wanted to avoid primary elections by encouraging consensus, but this was rejected by members.
