James Makamba May Need To Return To Exile, Nothing Has Changed - Analysts
According to political analysts businessman, James Makamba may find himself needing to return to exile in the near future. Makamba who was in self-imposed exile for the past 12 years only returned home after the ouster of former president Robert Mugabe following a military intervention. However, after his return, he was disqualified from running in the Zanu-PF primary elections despite having been confirmed by the Zanu-PF Politburo earlier on.
Makamba is also being accused of plotting to a smear campaign against Minister of ICT and CyberSecurity Supa Mandiwanzira as well as denigrating Vice President Constantino Chiwenga and his wife Marry in a leaked audio.
Speaking to the Daily News, Political analyst Maxwell Saungweme said
After elections, these chameleonic political beasts will show their true colours. So he has a high chance of facing the same fate he faced under Mugabe. This case shows that Zanu PF never changed a bit…The people who were persecuting him under Mugabe are still the same in power. It’s only that they are trying to appear to be different, tolerant and keeping a veneer of democracy while eviscerating its very substance.
Political scientist Ibbo Mandaza said:
This is not the first time that Makamba has been frustrated by Zanu PF and I don’t know why he keeps going back there. He has been rebutted a few times before; this must be the third or fourth time. It’s entirely his fault. Now they may pursue his old cases and we might see him running away from the country again.
