The National Patriotic Front (NPF) has said that it has the right to use former Vice President Joshua Nkomo’s images in its campaign material because he is the national symbol. The party, which has been endorsed by former president Robert Mugabe, has denied using the images to lure voters in the forthcoming harmonised elections.
Said NPF spokesperson, Jealousy Mawarire,
We use that picture on the back of our t-shirts, representing the foundation of our nation state and the unity brought about by our founding fathers, champions of unity…His portrait is a national symbol, therefore anyone can use it to promote his legacy and advance the ideals he stood for, fought so hard to achieve. Therefore it is our duty as patriotic Zimbabweans, to promote his good works.
