Joshua Nkomo Cultural Movement (JNCM) chairperson and son to the late Joshua Nkomo, Sibangilizwe, appealed to Government to have the statue of his father erected in Harare.
The National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe (NMMZ) in 2014 revealed that Government was working on erecting Nkomo’s statue in Harare. In December 2013, Government unveiled Nkomo’s statue in Bulawayo. Nkomo said a second statue of the late Vice President is available.
Meanwhile, JNCM will hold the late Joshua Nkomo’s centenary commemorations which have been running under the theme: “A Reflection of Ethical leadership.” The commemorations which will start on Nkomo’s birth day on June 7. A guest lecture will be held by a yet to be named Government official at the Zimbabwe Defence University. JNCM will also hold a dinner dance on June 8 before closing with a soccer match involving Highlanders and Dynamos on June 9. This will be the first time JNCM will be holding Nkomo’s commemorations outside Matabeleland region.
