Wicknell Chivayo's Contract Should Be Rescinded, All Ministers Involved Should Be Prosecuted Say Parly Committee
The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy has recommended that the contract for the Gwanda Solar Power Project should be rescinded and that Wicknell Chivayo should pay back the money advanced to him. The committee also recommended the arrest and prosecution of all ministers involved. Said Committee chairperson, Temba Mliswa,
Ministers and deputy ministers named in the corrupt activities at the Gwanda Solar Project should be investigated and prosecuted, and the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission and the Zimbabwe Republic Police should conduct an investigation on the ministers implicated in the scandal… The money paid to Intratrek ($5,6 million) should be recovered after investigations are completed. The award to Intratrek needs to be rescinded in light of violations of the Companies Act and the repealed Procurement Act.
Chivayo’s company was awarded the US$200 million tender by the Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) for the Gwanda Solar Power Project but meaningful progress is yet to made on the project almost two years later despite the fact that Chivayo received an advance of US$5 million from Zesa in irregular circumstances.
