Kembo Mohadi Summons Tongaat Hulett Zimbabwe For Negotiations

Vice President Kembo Mohadi has summoned management at Lowveld sugar producer Tongaat Hulett Zimbabwe for negotiations to discuss challenges afflicting the industry.

The company has been involved in a dispute with indigenous out-grower cane farmers in the Lowveld who benefited from the land reform programme, over the division of proceeds (DOP) from sugar milling. Tongaat hiked cane milling charges from about 17 percent to 23 percent, a situation that was affecting the viability of most farmers. The firm has also clashed with new farmers over DOP over-payment deductions backdated to 2014.

Addressing a rally at Tshovani Stadium at the weekend, Mohadi said Government wanted to meet  Tongaat’s management this week. Mohadi is set to meet Tongaat’s managing director Mr Sydney Mtsambiwa and representatives from out-grower farmers’ associations.
