UK Ambassador Blames "Clumsy Finger" After Liking A Tweet About "Excessive Freedoms" In Zimbabwe

The British Ambassador To Zimbabwe, Catriona Laing on Sunday claimed that she had mistakenly liked a tweet which seemingly called on President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration to put a check on excessive freedoms now being enjoyed in Zimbabwe. The tweet which Laing had liked was from one @ali_naka and said,

The excessive freedoms now being enjoyed in some parts of Zim need to be put in check as soon as possible.

This resulted in another Twitter user, @ConcernedZimCit asking the ambassador to clarify on which excessive freedoms she wanted to be checked in Zimbabwe. Laing then claimed that she had not read the tweet at all and blamed a clumsy finger. Said Laing,

Thanks for flagging. This is a clumsy finger scrolling through my timeline. I did not mean to like. I don’t even recall seeing the original tweet.

This British government and Laing, in particular, have been accused by the opposition parties of backing President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his Zanu-PF party to win the July 30 elections. The British have denied all accusations saying that they only care about free, fair and credible elections and not the actual winners.
