Australia defeated Zimbabwe by 100 runs in the third match of the T20I triangular series played at the Harare Sports Club on Tuesday. The Australians batted first and posted a massive score of 229/2. Blessing Muazabani managed to get the wickets of Aaron Finch (172) and D’Arcy Short (46).
In reply, Zimbabwe fell 100 runs short after it managed to post 129/9 in the full 20 overs. Simon Mire top-scored for Zimbabwe with 28 runs. The Australians totally dominated the match and managed to break a number of records in the match. Some of the records which were broken by Australia include:
- Aaron Finch’s score of 172 runs is a new record for the highest T20I score.
- The 223 partnership between Finch and Short is the highest stand ever in T20Is.
- Aaron Finch’s 172 contributed 75.1 percent of Australia’s total score, a new T20 record.
- The 100-run victory was the biggest margin for Australia in T20Is.
- Aaron Finch faced 76 balls, a new record in T20Is and second highest in T20. The highest is 77, by Zubair Ahmed in a Haier T20 Cup game in 2014.
Until today the highest totals scored against Zimbabwe were Afghanistan’s 215/6 in 2016 and New Zealand’s 202/5 in 2012. The highest individual score against Zimbabwe was Mohammad Shahzad’s 118 not out.
