Presidential Candidate Claims Military Was Going To Shoot Him In November

Former Zanu-PF politburo member and leader of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Daniel Shumba has claimed that he escaped possible death in November when he was tipped off that the military was going to raid his house. Shumba claimed that during the military intervention, which resulted in the fall of former president Robert Mugabe in November, the military raided his home and stole and his money as well as expensive clothes, even including underwear in the process. Addressing members of the UDA in Masvingo on Tuesday, Shumba said,

I should have been shot or killed during the events of last year, if it wasn’t a call from my uncle notifying me of the raid. I had just arrived from a business trip abroad and had to leave my house in a huff and when I returned two days later, I found my house ransacked with my US dollars missing and even my underpants…The junta has long been running this country’s economy. I was the chairman of the parliamentary portfolio on mines and I have proof that the army played a major role in the demise of our economy through corrupt deals with foreign investors.
