ZEC Website Down Again
The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC)’s website which can be accessed on https://www.zec.org.zw/ is down again.
ZEC has put up an error message citing that a scheduled maintenance is currently in progress.
Techzim argues ZEC ignored a number of maintenance practices. ZEC did not inform users that their website will be going offline. They didn’t use either of their social media platforms to relay the message. ZEC’s message does not alert visitors when their site will be back online. This is quite strange when you consider that the Election is being challenged in the Constitutional Court.
During the protests shortly after the election, the Electoral Commission’s website was hacked. Even though ZEC claims they took it down after 11 minutes, a lot of damage could have been done. It is also important to note that the election results contained on the ZEC website were changed after ZEC admitted making a ‘clerical error’.
