Mnangagwa Set To Appoint New Prosecutor-General
In an interview with The Herald, Secretary for Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Mrs Virginia Mabhiza said the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) is expected to advertise the vacancy for the Prosecutor-General position.
Mabhiza said JSC can now advertise the vacancy following the publication of the resignation of Prosecutor-General Advocate Ray Goba in the Government Gazette on Friday. After JSC conducts interviews it will forward the names of the best candidates to the Presidium for appointment. Said Mabhiza:
The resignation has been confirmed and in terms of the law, the procedure of selecting a new PG must now commence. The ball is now in JSC’s court and it must now advertise the vacancy, inviting nominations. The candidates will be subjected to public interviews from where the best candidates will be selected and the names forwarded to the Presidium for appointment.
FeedbackThe two previous Prosecutor- Generals having been fired for misconduct. The acting Prosecutor-General Kumbirai Hodzi had been Deputy Attorney-General in charge of the Legal Advice Section since 2012.
