The ruling Zanu-PF party has selected Gutu South legislator. Pupurai Togarepi as its Chief Whip for the 9th Parliament Togarepi who is also the leader of the Zanu-PF Youth League takes over from Lovemore Matuke who was the chief whip for the 8th Parliament. Matuke is now a senator and was appointed as the Deputy Minister for Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare.
The Chief Whip is an official whose task is to ensure that members of the party attend and vote as the party leadership desires. Whips are appointed by each party in Parliament to help organise their party’s contribution to the parliamentary business.
Advocate Jacob Mudenda will remain as the Speaker of Parliament. He will be deputised by Tsitsi Gezi. Mabel Chinomona becomes the Senate President.
