Zanu-PF Selects Candidates For National Assembly, Senate Posts
Sources who spoke to The Herald said Zanu-PF Politburo unanimously agreed to retain Advocate Jacob Mudenda as the Speaker of the National Assembly, with Tsitsi Gezi seconded to deputise him.
The Politburo nominated Marbel Chinomona as the Senate President and will replace Edna Madzongwe. Chinomona was the deputy Speaker of the Eighth Session of Parliament. Chinomona will be deputised by Retired General Mike Nyambuya. The election of the presiding officers today will be preceded by the swearing-in of legislators who were not available on Wednesday last week.
The sources told The Herald that Pupurai Togarepi was nominated as Zanu-PF chief whip in the National Assembly. He will be deputised by Obedingwa Mguni, while Tsitsi Muzenda will be deputy chief whip in the Senate. President Mnangagwa proclaimed September 25 as the day for the official opening of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament of Zimbabwe. He is expected to set the legislative agenda for the new session.
