Govt Blames ZIFA For ZBC's Failure To Broadcast AFCON Qualifier Match
In a statement on Twitter, the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting apologised for the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC)’s failure to broadcast an AFCON Group G qualifier match played at the National Sports Stadium yesterday.
The Information Ministry said the State broadcaster was unable to broadcast the match between the Warriors and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) because the football governing body ZIFA, failed to facilitate for ZBC to get the live feed for the soccer match from French media firm Lagardere Sports. The statement by the Information Ministry reads:
Regarding yesterday’s AFCON qualifier match between Zimbabwe and DRC. Our apologies for failing to have the match beamed live by ZBC. ZIFA failed to facilitate the national broadcaster to get the live feed for the soccer match from Lagardére.
FeedbackThe Caf regime led by former president Issa Hayatou in 2015 signed a 12-year media and marketing deal with Lagardere worth $1 billion. Lagardere secured media and marketing rights for all Caf tournaments, including the Africa Cup of Nations and Champions League.
