Zimbabwe Now On Street View Thanks To Man That Spent US $5K Personal Money

Internet users can now take a virtual tour of Zimbabwe, thanks to Tawanda Kanhema who spent about US $5,000 of his personal money to put the country on Street View. Street View is Google platform allowing internet users to tour places virtually.

Tawanda Kanhema, who resides in the US, uploaded coverage of about 800 km of Zimbabwe in October and November this year. Places he covered include Harare, Victoria falls, Masvingo, Great ZimbabweMutare, Christmas Pass and Hwange National Park.

Kanhema commented on his project:

I personally funded all travel and production costs related to the Zimbabwe Street View project. Google and Insta360 provided the Insta360 Pro 2 through the camera loan program.

This is still just a hobby for me, so using off-the-shelf products significantly reduced the costs for something that would cost thousands of dollars to just under $5,000 in flights, hotels, a car rental and gas expenses.

I was able to get the most important parts but I was thinking of this more as a snapshot of Zimbabwe on Street View, capturing all of the key places of interest while testing the cameras and getting more familiar with the production environment.
