Govt Vows To Thoroughly Investigate Allegations Of Misconduct Against Soldiers, Police
In a statement released on Friday evening, Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Ziyambi Ziyambi said Goverment will thoroughly investigate allegations of misconduct against any member of the security services.
He urged those with complaints to report them to the police where he promised they will be treated with impartiality and sensitivity. This follows allegations that soldiers were indiscriminately beating up people in high density suburbs. There are also allegations that soldiers raped women whilst looking for people who engaged in violent protests last week. Said Ziyambi:
In the same vein Government wishes to assure the public that all allegations of misconduct against any of our Security Services will be thoroughly investigated and the law will be allowed to take its course. Those with complaints should report them to the police and they will be treated impartially and with sensitivity.
FeedbackIt is also important to note that the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) has issued a statement appealing to all those who wish to complain against the Army to report their allegations to the Military Police on the following numbers: • 0712 842 218 • 078 645 2155 We call upon our media not to whip up emotions but help bring people together as we hold hands one to another rebuilding our country.
