The Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ) has called for an emergency meeting on January 28 to consider the state of the rule of law in the country. LSZ said that it is concerned with what it says are injustices happening at courts. A statement released by LSZ reads as follows:
We have received reports from some members and in other instances, we have observed practices that do not show that justice is being done. It would appear that no-one is paying attention to the adage: ‘Justice must not only be done, but it must be seen to be done.’ Irregular and illegal pre-trial processes and court processes appear to be collusively used to deny an accused person access to justice.
The lawyers have revealed that they had reached out to the Chief Justice Luke Malaba to express their displeasure.
