The Progressive Teachers’ Union Of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) and the Zimbabwe Teachers’ Association (ZIMTA) issued a joint statement on Thursday stating their intention to go on strike.
They accused the government of failing to resolve their grievances after giving it ample time to do so. They rejected out of hand what they consider meagre salary adjustment and cushioning allowance. They termed it ‘a slap in the face’.
They resolved that starting from February 5 2019, members of the two unions will embark on collective job action. The unions added that form the date, their members will not be reporting for duty due to incapacitation.
