The Minister Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Monica Mutsvangwa said that the government is moving to repeal the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (AIPPA).
Mutsvangwa said this while addressing the media during a weekly briefing on Cabinet deliberations in Harare on Tuesday. She said:
Cabinet considered principles for the repeal of the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, commonly known as AIPPA, presented by the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services.
Cabinet noted that the proposed amendment is in fulfilment of the requirement to align the country’s laws to the Constitution and to deepen the country’s democratic processes and accordingly approved the principles.
AIPPA has been very unpopular with citizens since its enactment at the turn of the milleluim. It has been considerdd a government move to stifle freedom of expression.
