Battlefields Mine Disaster: Govt Appeals For US$200 000
Government through the Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing July Moyo has appealed for donations to rescue victims of the Cricket 3 and Jongwe Mining Cooperative (Formerly Silver Moon) Mining disaster.
Government is looking for US$200 000 to pump water out of the shafts, feed the families of the bereaved and rescue teams as well as transportation and burial of the victims. In a statement declaring the accident a national disaster, Moyo said:
An estimated cost of US$200 000 is required to pump out the water, feed the bereaved families and teams on the ground, transportation and burial of the victims in their respective districts. Given the magnitude of this disaster, we kindly appeal to development partners and the corporate world for assistance as cash and kind. All donations in kind are to be channeled to the Department of Civil Protection, 7. floor Makombe Building., or District Administrator’s office (Mhondoro-Ngezi, district) in Kadoma for purposes of accountability and transparency.
